River Till - Sewage Pollution

The key part of Wessex Water's Business Plan 2025 - 30 is the consideration of pumping effluent from the Shrewton Water Treatment Centre to Winterbourne Stoke. This is because the river dries near the treatment plant and they are discharging up to 30 litres per second onto a dry river bed which impacts the wildlife in the Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI). Their plan therefore is to put a pipe to just north of the A303 and release the effluent there. However, the river dries here also. Winterbourne Stoke are challenging this via the Environment Agency. Their alternate plan is to run the pipeline to Berwick St James and discharge it somewhere near St James Church. The key points are on pages 230 -235 of Annex 17 to Wessex Water’s Business Plan 2025 - 30, a copy of which is attached below (Wessex Water Sewage Strategy).
