Le-Fin-de-Siècle

Le Fin-de-Siècle was a period of political turbulence and cultural transformation, during which sustained economic crisis and societal unrest, led to the rise of radical left-wing groups and an attendant backlash of conservatism that plagued Europe, but especially Paris, throughout the late 1890s. However, it was also a ‘melting pot’ of artistic innovation in many directions, the most influential being the Neo and Post-Impressionists, the Nabis and the Aesthetic and Symbolist movements, which in the 20th century led to the development of Expressionism and Surrealism.  Join me as we view the work of Seurat, Signac, Toulouse-Lautrec, Vallotton, Vuillard, Munch, Hodler, Klimt and many others.
